Mission Statements

Today's class was based around mission statements and the components of what is considered a good mission statement and what is considered a bad one. To be honest, I couldn't really tell the difference between a good one or a bad one. When looking over the individual group mission statements, I thought all the lofty ideas looked similar to Starbucks. The listing of all the great environments that will be produced and the morale amongst the employees or in our case, group members, seemed to be very repetitive. I do understand that it is imperative to place measurable components into one's statement, in order for it to be useful. However, is it important for a mission statement to be unique? That is an honest question of mine. Is one of the purposes of a mission statement is to stand out amongst the group?
Maybe by the end of the semester I will have a better grasp on what a mission statement should entail, but my major goal is to learn to decipher between a good one and a bad one, cause as of right now, they all just blend together.
